Evangelizing UX in UXMatters

I’ve been a regular contributor to Ask  UXMatters.com. This latest installment was about evangelizing UX in your organization. This is a topic I’ve had a TON of experience doing, since for the last 10 years, its all I’ve been doing.

You can read my thoughts and those of others in this latest installment of Aks UXMatters.

One addition I’d add is BE well read and reference your reading either directly or indirectly whenever it makes sense, and flood people’s inboxes (whatever the appropriate form is) with goodies from your regular DAILY reading list. It immediately makes you seem like a thought leader or at worst following, and if nothing else an information broker. This puts you in the position of info go-to person.

Well read the other tidbits in UXMatters.

Just a simple blog post to let people know that I posted a reprise to my “Foundations of Interaction Design” presentation I did at Interaction 09 | Vancouver on JohnnyHolland.org.

As a reminder you can see the slides from the talk here.

The JohnnyHolland.org piece is listed here.

Uday and his 3 Fundamentals of IxD

It’s rare that I highlight other bloggers on my own blog. I mean I have my Share Feed on Google Reader which I wish I had a way to gain feedback on if people are using. I really do put a lot of stuff up there.

But I digress. Uday Gajendar is a soul brother when it comes to thinking about Interaction Design. He pontificates on his blog “Ghost in the Pixel”. In many ways, he is my more intellectual better half and this recent piece of his called, “IxD is about three fundamental things” outlines beautifully another slice of the puzzle about foundations and IxD.

I won’t be able to do his piece justice in a summary, but I’ll tease by just saying that these fundamentals are: Conversation, Engagement and Embodiment.

Now go read it for yourself!

While I won’t attempt to restate what Uday put forward, I will follow up on the obvious question of, “Where do these fit with my foundations?”

That’s a great question indeed. It would seem that Uday is attempting to describe the major results of our work, while I’m trying to describe the clay that designers bend towards creating those outcomes. It would seem these can work quite well in parallel and in some ways my mind is spinning a bit thinking of how these “results” of interaction design help define better that clay I’ve been struggling to describe.

Thoughts?
