“Innovation has nothing to do with how many R&D dollars you have. When Apple came up with the Mac, IBM was spending at least 100 times more on R&D. It's not about money. It's about the people you have, how you're led, and how much you get it.” - Steve Jobs

A little teaser about my class that starts this week

Taken from the UIE sponsored Web Application Summit, Jan. 2007.

As I think about the 6 week course I’m starting this week, I’m getting really excited about the opportunity to run a small studio class on 2 of my favorite topics: interaction design & rich internet applications.

To cut to the chase, it is not too late to sign up.

But what is really exciting is why. I had the privilege of being invited to speak at both UI11 and the Web Application Summit in 2006 & 2007 respectively for the fine folks at UIE. Bill Scott & I created a full day workshop on the topic of DESIGNING Powerful Web Applications.

The content that both Bill and I provided is being supplemented in two different angles to fit this new format. Besides the seminars and exercises we came up with and run at UI11 I’ll be adding the following components:

  • There will be a studio with crits
  • Reading assignments from general interaction design literature
  • Weekly assignments of RIA literature from the blogsphere

These are things that just can’t happen in a 1 day workshop and I want to make sure that from a continuing education perspective, people are given the opportunity to expand learn at this level. This is what I understand to be the reason that the SmartExperience.org project was launched.

So please join me and the other students who have already registered. We’ll be in class on Wed. the 5th. I know it is short notice, but I really do believe that for anyone who is being asked to add a new level of interactivity to their current work, whether in desktop, mobile, or web applications, this course will bring huge value to you.
