It’s rare these days to find your words in ink on paper. I almost never have that opportunity, but I was invited last year to be 1 of many authors to contribute to ICOGRADA’s revision of their Design Education Manifesto. My piece first appeared to me actually as published online. Then the fine folks from the Graphic Artists Guild decided that they wanted to re-print the article in their quarterly Newsletter.
So the first printing that came my way was the Graphic Artist Guild Newsletter. This is the first time I have seen the Newsletter and was excited to see that my article was the “Featured Article”. Here is a scan of the cover:
I was really taken aback when I saw the cover because it demonstrated someone taking the time to understand the article and trying to capture the moment in an illustration. No one every created such a dynamic illustration for something I’ve written before. The artists name is Leslie Newman of Newman Design/Illustration (http://leslienewman.net/). Here is the illustration just by itself:
What I also appreciated was how elements of the image were put into the actual layout of the reprint of the article into a single tabloid spread layout:
So right when I got to scanning all these images and finally getting permission to reprint them here for y’all to get easier access to. I just get in the mail, the full print version of the original Design Education Manifesto with all the articles in it. What got me going was the shape of the book and more importantly the list of esteemed colleagues my name happens to be next to. I am humbled to have been allowed to join their ranks if only for a moment.
So here is the cover spread (front, spine, back) as a single image:
